At RCK, we believe our programming of the individual child as well as the group as a whole is one of our fortes. We pride ourselves on our ability to developmentally assess the needs of individual children and the group as a whole, and provide educational, stimulating and challenging programs for all children in our care.

How are the programs devised?

Observations are taken of all children and the group on a regular basis. These observations cover all areas of development and also take into consideration children's interests and events that have occurred at home. From these observations, short and long term goals are devised for each child, and specific learning experiences are identified, with strategies for staff as to how the experience needs to be implemented.

Implementation of the program

Generally speaking, the programs run for a fortnight, and evaluated weekly, so modifications and extensions can be made. The program covers both indoor and outdoor experiences and these are displayed in every room for all staff and parents to see. Each child is given an individual symbol to protect confidentiality, and parents will have received a note informing them of their child's symbol and planned goals and experiences for their child when they are being observed and planned for.

Evaluation

At the end of the fortnight, the program and individual plans are evaluated, again based on further observations of the children participating in the program, and future goals and ideas are documented for ongoing planning. Then the planning cycle begins again. Planning for the children and the group is like a 'work in progress', and staff are continually observing and identifying ways in which we can extend and develop each child and the group as a whole.
