EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR - Level 3
Early Childhood Educator Level 3- Completed the TAFE certificate 3 in Child Care Studies (assistant) course or possesses in the opinion of the employer sufficient knowledge and experience to perform duties at this level.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Early Childhood Educator is an employee of Richmond Creche & Kindergarten and is responsible to the Committee of Management through the centre co-ordinator and room leaders.
ROLE
-To provide quality child care that meets a high standard
-To provide a calm, trusting environment for children, where they are respected and their individual development is facilitated
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To children by:
-Assisting in program planning and ensuring that the program is balanced, developmentally appropriate and that transitions run smoothly
-Assisting in devising developmental programs for children, working within the Victorian Early Years Framework and incorporating the 5 learning outcomes. Assist in providing individual attention within a respectful, calm, caring group environment
Providing a safe and healthy environment for children that promotes a caring and pleasant atmosphere
-Providing an accepting and encouraging food/eating environment
-Assisting in setting positive and realistic behavioural limits for individual children within a group setting
-Assisting in ensuring that the program is planned to reflect the total philosophy and developmental goals for children
-Respecting the home values of children, including cultural and neighbourhood influences
-Regarding all children equally without gender bias
-Being an advocate for the children
To families by:
-Fostering positive relationships with parents by exchanging information about their children
-Listening to parents wishes regarding their children and considering the general needs of the community
-Assisting in implementing orientation process to new children and parents to the centre
-Encouraging parents to form supportive relationships with each other
To co-workers by:
-Developing mutually supportive and respectful relationships with and amongst co-workers
-Fostering positive staff relationships with all members of the centre team
-Discussing children and staff concerns with your room leader, team leader and finally the co-ordinator. To show respect to all members of the team, no matter what position they hold. To speak to others as you would wish to be spoken to.
-Following appropriate grievance procedures in the case of an altercation with another staff member.
-Assisting in supervising students and volunteers
-Working in different areas as the need arises and attending centre functions when requested by the co-ordinator
-Attending and contributing to staff meetings and Annual General Meeting
-Sharing in the general cleaning and maintenance duties as required by all staff
-Communicating information regarding children to relevant members of the centre team
To the employer by:
-Participating in regular staff appraisals as required by the Committee of Management
-Maintaining standards according to the requirements of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD), the Committee of Management, the National Accreditation System, the Yarra Health department, and the occupational health and safety act
-Being an advocate for the centre
-Attending at least one working bee a year.
To Profession by :
-Participating in ongoing professional education programs
-Developing and maintaining interests for personal growth which will positively influence work within the Centre
-Liaising with other family and child services as appropriate
-Complying with grievance procedures as laid out in the staff handbook
-Contributing to the Accreditation process
-When moving children to the next group, the emphasis is on readiness of the individual child, not the age. Each group has a program of learning experiences geared to meet the aims of the Centre and the needs of the individual child. Play is seen as a vital vehicle for learning that allows children to expand their limits of perception and interaction in their own time. With the support of caring adults, children can develop a sense of their own worth and a positive image which will give them the confidence to achieve success.
CONDITIONS
A Monday to Friday 40 hour working week (rotating with other staff) with the equivalent of a 38 hour week, working full time, having a day off monthly. Salary and sick leave according to appropriate award in relation to the persons classification structure. An annual agreement with appraisals as required will occur.
